Somehow I woke up dehydrated.
I looked around the room for a bottle of water. Nothing. But there was an empty beer bottle. Thank God, I thought, as I stumbled to the washroom. Turning on the sink I soon realized that there was no one I position the lip of the bottle under the tap. I tried shoving my head into the sink but my mouth couldn't reach the water. A pitiful idea came to me and I started wet my arm and licked it. I did about 10 ten times before giving up. There's a sense of futility about it all. How easy would it be to go downstairs to the restaurant to get a glass of water? Very, is the answer. But I won't do it. Mahdi doesn't do things like that. I am always willing to go out of the way but only in my own way.
An idea hits me. I turn on the shower, I know, I said I didn't want to talk about the shower. The water soon fills my bottle. It's cold and I get a little wet. Zero fucks are given as I inhale over 2 liters of water. I fill up my bottle to the top and bring it to me room. I don't possibly think I can drink any more water but I know myself and I'd let myself go thirsty instead of doing that again, not because it was unpleasant, but just because.
I put on my last clean pair of clothes and make my way to the venue. Although it takes me a lot of time. Maybe two whole hours. I stop a lot to reorient myself and stare off at nothing in particular. The drug dealers call me Boss. As I'm crossing a bridge I see a girl sitting on the cement writing something in her notebook. She looks like a traveler. I want to say something to her but can't find the words. I walk on and forget about her until now. She'll be soon forgotten again. Maybe if I ever go back and read this I'll remember her again, maybe...
Eventually I make it to the venue. I get a hero's welcome. This usually happens with me at conventions. Let me explain the reoccurring sequence: Mahdi searches for his victim, works on them until finally challenging them to an outrageous feat that will definitely not end well, Someone accepts, Mahdi goes too far and suddenly disappears, The morning comes and everyone celebrates his resurrection. I find Chase and we compare burns. He has a blister. At the time I'm writing this it seems like we will both be permanently slightly scarred.
I find my way to the back of the room and lay on the couch glimpsing the cardistry videos being projected. They are so beautiful. I'm seeing a new art form being created and surrounded by a new brand of artists. The award ceremony takes place. Everyone who wins is deserving of their prize. It's actually wonderful that these prizes exist now, I really believe it will push Cardistry to unseen heights just like bodybuilding was pushed in the 70s.
Oh, I almost forgot something from yesterday. Everyone at some point went outside to hang out in the courtyard and cool off because the venue was so hot. I saw everyone and decided to try to get a good shot with my GoPro through the staircase window. I started filming at the wall and panned the camera towards the crowd below me. One person noticed me and yelled and the whole crowd burst into cheering! What a great shot I thought and then I noticed there was an old woman with her arms raised and she was cheering alone after everyone stopped. I made my way downstairs and realized what was happening. The old lady lived in the building across from us and was yelling that she was trying to sleep, at 4PM, standard in Germany. She particularly was yelling at Melissa, Alejandro 'thecuso' Porte's wife, blaming her for all of this. Melissa thought she was coming to get the bestvacations of her life, she was wrong.
Little Dan Buck knew that this was bad for the event and started yelling for everyone to go back inside right now! As he was doing this a big German man, he was probably named Hans or Hermann, I don't know, grabbed little Dan by the arm and yelled that no one is going anywhere until the polizei arrive. I didn't like this man grabbing my friend but I didn't want to interfere because I was carrying a 4.9 inch blade and didn't want to end up in a German jail if questioned by the police. Dan kept yelling for everyone to get inside and everyone slowly listened. The police came but we were already inside and fairly quiet. The old woman went up to her apartment and glared at us through the window.
The police was called as we left in the evening. I also got great footage of that and then disappeared when the police noticed my filming. This was on Saturday mind you, now let's get back to Sunday.
The convention ended and everyone broke off in different directions. I was exhausted and out of it and I decided to hang around the House of Cardistry. I missed an epic party that night unfortunately. But at the House there were a few us drinking and hanging out. I told jokes, performed magic, and made some new friends. A passing vagabond rolled me a cigarette, I don't smoke but I appreciated. the gesture. Then Odd Strandbakken showed up. We both sat on the sidewalk and I performed magic for him for I think almost an hour straight. He then gave me the best testimonial I've ever received in my life. I wish I had it on video or had some of it in writing. He showered me with praise for about 10 minutes straight, telling me that I'm a legend and the greatest magician who ever lived.
Dave Buck ran up from behind me and gave me a hug. He really does love me. Soon after that I went to bed, the sun was coming up...
I perform wonders without hands and walk the earth without feet.
